Introduction of Organizer:

The Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association (HKDEA) was established in 1999 as a non-profit making association comprised of digital entertaining corporations. It is dedicated to the betterment of the local digital entertainment industry.

HKDEA's missions are:

  • To promote technology development within the industry in order to deliver internationally competitive products;

  • To explore and develop new markets;

  • To project a positive image associated with playing video games;

  • To discourage software piracy; and

  • To facilitate communication and interaction between industries, including toys, entertainment and video games, which are associated with digital entertainment.

The HKDEA was founded during a time when there were relatively few local digital entertainment establishments. It was thus established to provide a mechanism upon which local developers could cooperate to ensure industry-wide prosperity.

Since its establishment, the HKDEA has organized a variety of activities and events including:

  • Hong Kong ICT Awards: Digital Entertainment

  • Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Excellence Awards

  • Conferences

  • Overseas Promotions

  • Local Promotions

  • HKDEA Web Site building

  • Seminars and Training

Background:

Hong Kong ICT Awards 2006: Digital Entertainment has been previously known as the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Excellence Awards (HKDEEA), which is recognized as the leading award for the digital entertainment industry in Hong Kong. Local professionals with outstanding achievements in the digital entertainment industry have been honoured every year.

The Hong Kong ICT Awards were established in 2006 as a collaborative effort among industry support organizations, ICT professional bodies, academia and the Government to establish a large scale and internationally recognized branding of ICT awards of Hong Kong. Aiming to promote and commend the excellent achievements of the local ICT professionals and organizations, the Awards also encourage local practitioners to develop innovative and creative ICT solutions, which will uplift the image of Hong Kong ICT sectors, both locally and internationally.

With the effort from six local industry-related organizations, the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2006 had drawn over 300 entries for the seven award categories; and successfully increased the awareness amongst the industry and the public. Following the success of the Awards in 2006, the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2007 will be another focal point of the industry in 2007.

Objective:

Hong Kong ICT Awards 2007: Best Digital Entertainment Award seeks to recognize and honor the best works produced in the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Industry and to promote excellence in this field. The Award will grant over 20 superb productions in the Open Category and one of the new start-up companies will be specially awarded for its outstanding performance. Outstanding productions in the Student Category will also be granted, which aim to allow accomplished individuals or teams from the academia to participate in this campaign and show off their talent.

With the integration and crossover with other media (i.e. web 2.0, game 3.0), many new digital entertainment contents emerge and become a new force, pushing the industry forward. A new Certificate of Merit named ¡§Best DE 2.0¡¨ is therefore added this year to honor the best brand new digital entertainment contents. Also, ¡§Special Mentions¡¨ Certificate of Merit will be granted to those productions that impress the judging panel in a specific area which is out of the award titles, which aims to encourage the potential participants in the industry.
