Recreating Master Xu Beihong・s Ink Painting Horses into 3D Ink Animation - Chinese New Year TV Commercial for the Hong Kong Jockey Club
The Hong Kong Jockey Club has licensed from the Xu Beihong Art Committee the usage of Master Xu・s four famous Chinese ink paintings, ：Standing Horse；, ：Running Horse；, ：Portrait of Six Horses；, and ：Portrait of Two Horses；, for a whole year promotion campaign.
The first initiative was to create a 60-second TV commercial featuring Master Xu・s famous horse paintings. To make it as an eye-catching idea, the production team proposed to create a 3D animated ink version of the horse paintings. In the TV commercial, the original paintings of Master Xu・s horses would seamlessly transform into 3D ink animation and vice versa. The main challenge of this animation work was that the production team had to preserve Master Xu・s painting characters, such as his brush strokes and ways of inking, after the horses being recreated in 3D ink animation.
This animation work not only recreates Master Xu・s famous horse paintings with new dimensions, but also extends Master Xu・s innovative art evolution idea that he promoted half a century ago.
